This biombo was included in the exhibition Contested Visions in the Spanish Colonial World, held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from November 6, 2011 through January 29, 2012. The accompanying text read as follows:
"This folding screen includes standard allegorical images of the Four Continents as women riding chariots, flanked by the mythological figures of Ceres and Flora. Behind America, a group of heathen Indians dismember a body in the presence of two women dressed in Mexican huipiles (native blouses), who serve as personifications of the land". | |
