La Magdalena Construction of the church began in 1604 under the direction of the Franciscan fray Luis de Navarro and was originally part of the convento of Santa María Magdalena, a dependency of the priory at Etzatlán, until secularized circa 1725, at which time fray Juan de Barbosa converted La Magdalena into the parish church.
