His broad rimmed galero hat indicates the status of Alexander of Saxoferrato as a cardinal, as of 1460 when he took charge of the Roman church of Santa Susanna. Along with the biretta headpiece of Cardinal Buenaventura and the tip of Paul of Rome's zucchetto cap (both on the North wall) the burgundy-red of his galero hat is the only mural to include a touch of color.
