Top tier, right figure - West wall murals
Placed on the right in the top tier of the West wall murals is the figure identified in the banderole as a certain Guillermo de Vecchio of Florence (Vecchio misspelled with one "c"). As such, no ready information appears to exist on this personage. Since the others depicted on the wall murals are significant historic Augustinian figures, it is not inconceivable that the Order itself made a mistake in its representation. A plausible alternate is Guglielmo Becchi (circa 1411-1470) a celebrated theologian and write of De falso dogmate Maumethi (On the False Dogma of Muhammad). The Bishop of Fiesole outside of Florence, he maintained close Medici family relations in the Tuscan capital and was buried there, in the Basilica di Santo Spirito.
